With Dilip Kumar's death at the age of 98, an era comes to an end.

Dilip Kumar, real name Yusuf Khan, starred in Naya Daur, Mughal-e-Azam, Devdas, Ram Aur Shyam, Andaz, Madhumati, and Ganga Jamuna, among other films in Indian cinema. According to legend, he turned down the part of Sherif Ali in David Lean's Lawrence Of Arabia, which was finally portrayed by Omar Sharif.

Beginning in the 1940s, Dilip Kumar's career lasted several decades. From the 1980s on, he shifted from romantic-tragic leads to character roles in films like Kranti, Shakti, Karma, and Saudagar. His final picture, Qila, was released in 1998.

Dilip Kumar wedded Saira Banu, his co-star in films such as Gopi, Sagina, and Bairaag, in 1966.

Dilip Kumar won numerous film honors, including the first-ever Filmfare Best Actor Award. He shares the record for most Filmfare Best Actor wins with Shah Rukh Khan, having eight.

Bollywood legend died in Mumbai's Hinduja Hospital. He was 98 years old at the time.
