US Navy in Indian waters

US Navy in Indian waters

India has raised serious concerns on Friday after spotting UN Navy petrol. The US Navy ship conducted a "freedom of navigation patrols” exercise close to Lakshadweep islands.

The Indian government quoted United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea and pointed out that forigners are not allowed to use of weapons or explosives, without the consent of the coastal state.

US Navy's 7th fleet said that it conducted the exercise around 130 nautical miles west of the Lakshadweep Islands, "without requesting India’s prior consent” on April 7th and this is “consistent with international law".
