Anti-virus developer John McAfee was discovered dead in a prison Cell
John McAfee, the founder of the anti-virus software company, was discovered dead in a Barcelona prison cell just hours after a Spanish judge agreed to transfer him to the United States to face tax evasion charges.
Despite earning millions from consulting work, speaking engagements, crypto-currencies, and selling the rights to his life narrative, John McAfee was detained in Spain in October 2020 as he was ready to board a plane to Turkey, and accused of failing to file tax returns for four years.
John David McAfee was a two-time presidential candidate and a British-American computer programmer. He created the first commercial anti-virus software in 1987 and founded McAfee Associates to sell it.
According to McAfee's lawyer, Javier Villalba, the anti-virus software pioneer died by hanging because his nine months in prison had left him depressed.
