Economic crisis

The main Opposition party in Sri Lanka, Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), has decided to form its alternative committee to investigate the causes behind the country's economic crisis. 

 

 

This decision comes after Opposition MPs resigned from a committee appointed by the Government, which included members from the ruling party, Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP). 

 

 

The Opposition believes that the Government's committee was formed to protect those responsible for the economic collapse. They criticize the appointment of an SLPP representative as the committee's Chairman, as the ruling party was in power during economic turmoil. 

 

 

In response, the SJB has chosen to withdraw from the Government-appointed committee and establish its committee comprising Opposition members to conduct a diligent investigation into the economic crisis and hold those accountable.
