The Coordinating Officer  to the Attorney General, State Counsel Nishara Jayarathne stated  that the  AG's Department obtained a court order from the Kurunegala Magistrate’s Court to Protect and Prevent access to the demolished archeological site in  Kurunegala, pending the investigations.

Accordingly, a prevention order has been issued against the  the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Kurunegala, Municipal Councillors, Municipal Commissioner and Engineer,  Municipal Council staff members and their representatives, prohibitng them from entering the said building premises.

The Mayor of Kurunegala had demolished the building on July 16, to launch a road development project where he had stated that prior approval from the Road Development Authority had been obtained for the said demolition.

The aforsaid building is presumed to be a 13th century King's court  and the Department of Archaeology lodged a complaint claiming that the building was demolished by the Mayor of Kurunegala.
