Taprobane Island

Taprobane Island

Today we are going to tell our travel friends about a wonderful island in Weligama in Down South, which is called Taprobane Island. Rock Island or Taprobane Island / Galduwa, this island is called in many names.

The island is a private property with a villa. An isolated area of about two and a half acres, surrounded by gardens, forests and swimming pools, is a beautiful island. Taprobane, is an ancient Greek word for Sri Lanka, and was named after its most famous owner, Maurice Thalwandeya. He bought it around 1925, built a villa on it and set up the island to create a private garden.

After observing the islands for a long time, he himself has come to like it. The island was then given to Paul Balls, an American author and composer, and later passed on to several owners. Dutch author Peter Ten Hoopen also wrote a song about the island. For a traveler looking for a quiet place in solitude, this island is a great resort, an island which the ocean is visible from all directions. The sea is a little rough in bad weather, but that's nothing to be feared. For the beauty of the island still remains untouchable.
